Back, out.

enchanted-rockMy back went out yesterday. For no good reason. Yes, I went hiking Sunday, to Enchanted Rock State Park. But isn’t it gorgeous? It really is an enchanting place! And yes, I did yard work that involved wielding a Tonka-toy-like chainsaw (anniversary present) on Monday, nothing new there.
I think the real reason may be the extra lb or 2 that I wear like a belt and had put on over the holidays. Time to rev up the core workouts. Just not this week.   : 0

Until then, ice and ibuprofen will be my closest friends.

Lunch in a jar – Sugar Ban is ON!

lunch

It’s what I get. What I get for over-indulging this Christmas season. Actually, it began back in October!

A Pinterest grab, compact, convenient, easy to make, snack-in-a-jar. Olives, tomatoes in Balsamic vinegar topped with Feta cheese, yum-O! Did it satisfy? Yes. Did it crush the pangs? No. Roasted almonds helped with that, lol.

Seriously though, the sugar-ban is officially ON! Let’s DO this!

Gramma Jeans

A few years ago ‘Mom’ jeans were all the rage. Being caught wearing them wasn’t a compliment either. As we usher in a new year I’m going to usher in the new ‘Gramma’ jean!

I started wearing jeans nearly every day back in 1974. Gone were my older sisters bell-bottomed jeans and elephant ear pants and in came the way cooler straight-legged jean! I still love them, however, over the years some body parts have changed (significantly) and that low slung jean that came back in style recently have given way to a more modest ‘gramma’ jean at least for me.

I don’t particularly care to accentuate my muffin top anyway. Don’t like it being visible, and don’t like how self-conscience it makes me feel!

Is it too much to ask for a comfortable, rides high on the hip, non-binding jean? What then? And baggie jeans were not the solution!

I think I’ve found my new favorite jean! Gloria Vanderbilt ‘Amanda’, with 2% spandex. I’m a solid size 9 but these are a size 6 and still roomy!

Do these make me look fat?

Mom’s Christmas gift

james1-17

What do you get for the dear 80-year-old woman you call ‘Mom’ who already has everything? That is my dilemma every year. When over for a visit recently she discovered how quick & easy a toaster oven works. She never uses her full-sized stove anyway and only purchases pre-made meals and snacks. None too healthy I might add. But after making roasted brussels sprouts and roasted acorn squash for her she was immediately sold on the toaster oven!

Being the woman that she is and with only 3 weeks before Christmas instead of letting her children buy one for her she ran out and purchased one herself! So, what does that leave me with?

Are you old?

proverbs31-25

It’s all relative I guess. To a 20-year-old 50 is old! But not to an 80-year-old.

A more appropriate question to ask is ‘Does your age define who you are?’

I recently heard that fear can sometimes define a person. But then so can our looks, our dress size, our success, or are failures.

There was a time when I thought that looking attractive mattered most.
Of course, now that I’m ‘old’ (to a 20-year-old) I’d like to change that thought process, lol. So, I’m working on not letting my age define who I am.

What is defining who you are?

Day One

I feel that every one of us is multi-faceted and has multiple sides. (Flashback to ‘Sybill’. Everyone 50 and older knows who I’m talking about!) But seriously, we all have many sides. Mine are sometimes opposing…which can make life really interesting!

There’s the artist in me… I love looking at art…and nothing gets the creative juices flowing faster than looking at some really creative art! I believe that we were created by our creator to be creative! I have been blessed with a degree of skill at drawing and painting. I have in some instances felt that I was being guided during the artistic process:

I also take photos in the city of Grey Forest where I live and have walked the streets nearly every day since we moved here in 1992. Check out my photo book:

Then there’s the patriotic side. I want to invite God back into our country, our schools, and our homes! Case in point…after viewing the documentary Monumental starring Kirk Cameron, with my neighborhood Bible group I felt compelled to do something more to help turn our country around. So, using my graphic art skills I developed the poster which has sold all over the country, we’ve even shipped to Australia! MatrixOfLiberty.com

But by newest side…and picture a carnival room here…the kind with all the mirrors in it. Not the ones that make you funny looking, just the rooms with tons and tons of mirrors! I haven’t been to one in years and if I went today I assure you it would be more like a ‘House of Horrors’ surrounded by images of myself in the worst lighting imaginable! Which brings me to this less favorable side of myself: the aging, aged, side. It’s new alright but really it’s old. The old new me. It took me 10 years to get used to turning 40…and you know what happened then.

So here I am, just turned another corner, that of a senior citizen as far as the movie theaters around here are concerned. The age of the double nickel. My gf sent me an appropriate video clip of Sammy Hagar – ‘I can’t Drive 55’ circa 1984. blechh.

What I’d like to accomplish with this blog is this: I’d like to hear from other women 50 years and older. To hear their concerns, to share their accomplishments, fashion tips, and yes, even their hopes for the future! Let’s encourage each other as sisters in Christ should. I am so fortunate to have 2 beautiful (way older….hahaaa, not by much) sisters who love the Lord, love their families, and are learning to love life as an older person. And then there’s my sweet, little 80 year old mother, who still drives to work twice/week!

Would you like to meander thru this journey together?
